Milky Way Shakes rolls into the Texas capital to sell its frothy milkshakes this weekend, with dippable French fries on the way soon.
Milky Way Shakes—Austin’s first all-vegan milkshake food truck—opened Thursday. The truck features six milkshakes made with coconut-based ice cream, blended with almond milk, and served with mix-ins and toppings such as coconut-based caramel and vegan meringue made with aquafaba (aka, whipped bean brine). Several of Milky Way’s creative shakes include the Red Planet (a strawberry, blueberry, and fudge concoction), the Oreo Borealis (featuring mint, Oreo cookies, and a fudge swirl), and the Grackle Massacre (a caramel, chocolate, and cinnamon shake with a cayenne kick). Founders Moni Burgin and Rachel Horesovsky exceeded their crowdfunding goal of $10,000 with 112 backers last year and plan to expand its menu—with French fries for dipping into their milkshakes—in coming months.
