Baileys' Vegan Almande Lands in UK Whole Foods

News

Almond milk-based liqueur Baileys Almande is finally available across the pond.

Whole Foods UK will begin selling Bailey’s Almande this week. The vegan-certified alcoholic beverage is made with sweet almond oil, almond essence, cane sugar, and vanilla. Whole Foods UK promoted its exclusive distribution deal of Almande with two vegan recipes—Baileys Almande Strawberry Delight and Baileys Almande Iced Coffee—on its Facebook page last week. Baileys did not intend for its initial formulation of Almande—released last year—to be vegan, but after massive consumer interest, the company investigated the formulation of the beverage and discovered that it contained traces of beeswax. Bailey’s pulled the non-vegan Almande from distribution, reformulated the beverage, and received vegan certification for its new formulation earlier this year to serve the growing vegan community—which, in the United Kingdom, has increased by 360 percent since 2006.
