UK Italian chain Zizzi continues to add new vegan dishes to its 140 locations due to huge growth margins for plant-based options.
Italian chain Zizzi—with more than 140 locations across the United Kingdom and Ireland—announced this week a 246-percent increase in sales of its vegan menu items in 2017. The chain revealed an increase of 104 percent in the sales of its vegan pizzas, with 166,451 vegan meals sold during the summer. In 2016, Zizzi added nine vegan dishes to its menus, including lentil ragù, spaghetti pomodoro, and a margherita pizza that features rice-based cheese. By the end of its 2016 fiscal year, the chain reported that sales of vegan options spiked by 150 percent—with many non-vegans sampling the new plant-based offerings. Due to the popularity of vegan dishes, Zizzi has added several more options since last year, including three desserts—the sales of which the chain reports have increased by tenfold in one year, with the popular Sticky Chocolate & Praline Torte selling 116,040 units. To continue the momentum, Zizzi added two new vegan pizzas—the Zucca Rustica and Classic Pepperonata—to its menu for fall.
