Chef Resigns After Serving Dairy to Vegans On Purpose

News

Laura Goodman has left her position as head chef at Italian restaurant Carlini after bragging on Facebook about serving animal products to vegans.

Chef Laura Goodman announced her resignation from Shropshire, England-based Italian restaurant Carlini after admitting to serving animal products to vegan diners. Goodman prepared a special menu for a group of vegan and vegetarian guests. A vegan guest unknowingly ordered a pizza topped with animal-based mozzarella from an existing menu that was available to the group. Instead of informing the guest that the menu item was not vegan, Goodman took to Facebook to boast that she had “spiked a vegan.” Goodman followed with a second post, stating, “Pious, judgmental vegan (who I spent all day cooking for) has gone to bed, still believing she’s a vegan.” Commenters on the post called Goodman’s actions “disgusting” and “spiteful,” pointing out the danger in serving guests potential allergens without their knowledge. Carlini’s Google reviews have dropped to one star since the incident, and the restaurant has deleted its Facebook page. “Laura Goodman has today tendered her resignation from Carlini;” a spokesman for the restaurant told BBC, “and the board of directors are currently considering their options.” Carlini co-owner Michael Gale apologized on Goodman’s behalf, stating that while the restaurant did serve the group animal-based cheese, the meal did not include meat. The restaurant is currently under investigation by the Shropshire Council for misconduct.
