The 300-pound, 6-foot-6-inch MLB player is now a raw vegan to maximize his athletic abilities.
Major League Baseball (MLB) player Carsten Charles “CC” Sabathia—the pitcher for the New York Yankees—recently adopted a raw, plant-based diet. The 37-year-old, left-handed pitcher eschewed animal products to stay competitive with younger players. “This is a young team and [raw veganism] keeps me young," Sabathia told MLB.com. "I know if I can stay healthy and stay on the field, I can put up the numbers and good things will happen.” Sabathia is 6 feet and 6 inches tall and says his body type is more suited for football, which means he must work harder to succeed in baseball. Sabathia credits his plant-based diet for aiding in prevent injuries and reducing recovery times—a claim made by many newly vegan athletes, including professional basketball player Kyrie Irving.
