Professional race car driver Leilani Münter will kick off racing season in a new car outfitted with the vegan strong message.
Vegan race car champion Leilani Münter will unveil her new vehicle next month at the Daytona 500 motor race in Florida. Last year, Münter drove the No. 15 car emblazoned with “Vegan Powered”—the first explicitly vegan-themed car on the track. The Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) race car driver chose the “Vegan Strong” message this year as a nod to the strong athletes who choose to live compassionate vegan lifestyles. “There are many professional athletes who are thriving in their sports as vegans,” Münter, who adopted a vegan lifestyle seven years ago, told VegNews. “My car this year is designed to proudly celebrate these facts with a bright, bold color scheme that is sure to get attention.” Last year, Munter and her team erected a tent at Daytona with vegan samples to encourage race fans to try plant-based foods—an initiative that Münter will continue this year. “Our team will be at each race looking to challenge even those die-hard meat eaters to think differently about their health and fitness,” Münter added, “and offer all the support they need to get started.” Münter has used her platform to promote animal-rights issues during her career—in part, by driving cars outfitted in The Cove and Blackfish imagery—and offsets emissions by using only solar in her pit box, as well as adopting one acre of rainforest per race.
