Photographer Creates the Most Vegan Proposal Ever

News

Popping the question with the help of an avocado is gaining traction thanks to Amsterdam food stylist Colette Dike.

Thanks to Amsterdam-based food stylist and photographer Colette Dike, trend-savvy lovers are now using avocados to propose to their sweethearts. Dike posted a photo to Instagram this Valentine’s Day of a halved avocado with an engagement ring in place of its pit with hashtags “vegan” and “proposal.” Social-media users heeded Dike’s advice to “tag someone who should propose like this,” and a number of proposals have now involved the popular fruit. While Dike helped the trend become popular, the idea of using an avocado to propose has been around since at least October 2016, when Instagrammer Taylor Selby posted a photo of her then-boyfriend Ben Stevenson breaking the question with an overripe avocado. “I'm a jeweler, so I'm around jewelry boxes all the time, and I truly wanted to give Taylor a proposal that was special and unique to her that also spoke true to our relationship,” Stevenson explained to Cosmopolitan, adding “we both love avocados.” Stevenson and Selby cut an avocado instead of a cake at their recent wedding ceremony.
