Rooney Mara Launches Luxury Vegan Fashion Line

News

New fashion brand Hiraeth includes faux-leather pants, velvet garments, and combat boots—all made ethically in Los Angeles.

Actress Rooney Mara recently debuted vegan fashion line Hiraeth, which she created with her friend Sara Schloat. The brand is a highly curated collection of timeless pieces that includes faux-leather trousers (with a matching harness), a slip dress, a raspberry-hued corduroy suit, velvet items, and several shoe styles such as combat boots. “I realized there aren’t many [faux leather] options available for someone like me who is interested in design and wants high-quality pieces,” Mara told Vogue. “In fast fashion, you can find faux-leather boots that are really cheap, but while it’s cruelty-free in the animal sense, I didn’t necessarily know where those things were made, or if they were cruel toward humans.” Mara—who adopted a vegan lifestyle seven years ago— said each Hiraeth piece is made in Los Angeles by people who are paid a living wage. “I didn’t want to compromise on either thing, and I wanted pieces that were made to last,” Mara said. “So it really came out of my own need.” The collection’s pieces are priced between $600 and $1,500, but Mara has yet to announce where or when they will be available for sale.
