UK's Young Vegans debut a pie packed with vegan meat, cheese, and tomato chutney.
A vegan cheeseburger pie—stuffed with two vegan meat patties, melted cheese, tomato chutney, and gherkin pickles—will make its debut today at the Hackney Downs Vegan Market in London. Blogger Sean O’Callaghan of Fat Gay Vegan scouted the vegan take on the traditional handheld meat pie made by couple Carla and Marco Casadei for food company Young Vegans. “We are currently quite obsessed with combining food concepts,” Marco Casadei told O’Callahan in a feature on Metro UK, “and the cheeseburger pie is a great example of this. This pie takes a lot of inspiration from rock and roll culture and excess, and is by far the most calorific junk food we have ever created. Elvis would be proud.” Other offerings at the weekly vegan market include the “Vegan Bae-Cone”—a cone stuffed with seitan-based bacon, popcorn chicken, and French fries, and doused in vegan cheese sauce made by London’s popular vegan restaurant Temple of Seitan.
