Vegan Zero-Waste Store Opens in London

News

New shop Hetu is on a mission to eliminate plastic, exploitation, pesticides, and over-consumption.

New vegan store Hetu opened in London on Saturday. Hetu—founded by vegan environmentalist Laura Boyes—follows the “Zero-Waste” philosophy, which means it uses minimal packaging, sources items from sustainable and ethical partners, and promotes a lifestyle that is beneficial for the environment with the purpose of eliminating (not just managing) waste. Inside, customers will find bulk bins (made from glass and metal, instead of plastic) filled with unprocessed and unrefined vegan foods (such as grains, nuts, herbs, and spices), a wooden grinder to make fresh nut butters, a selection of second-hand plants repotted in recycled jars and cans, and palm oil-free deodorants and soaps. Customers are encouraged to bring their own containers and shopping bags, as Hetu does not provide them.
